Sports (continued)

I did go out for basketball my Junior year. By this time I was one of the taller players being 6 feet tall. But I wasn't very good and sat down at the end of the bench. I got to play during practice and near the end of a game if the result was basically already determined.

When baseball season came around my Junior year I was stronger and threw much faster, so much so that my brother would no longer catch for me when we practiced at home. It was a good season for me and summer baseball was even better. I was now THE starting pitcher and I had all of the pitches. I could throw strikes with my fastball, curve in or out, round-house-curve as a change-up and a knuckle ball. I didn't throw the knuckle ball often because you never knew where it was going and I didn't have good control of it. In Junior Legion Baseball that summer I pitched a no-hitter for the first 7 innings which is all we played in high school, but in Junior Legion it was 9 innings just like the big boys. I gave up one hit in the 8th and 2 more in the 9th but I did pitch a shutout (my first) and we won 5-0.
